Eduardo de Oliveira Barata is a registered architect in NSW, (ARB no. 9844) and director of B A R A T A and an associate lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture Design and Planning, University of Sydney. Graduating with distinction from the School of Architecture at London Metropolitan University (now The CASS), Eduardo joined Urban Future Organization (UFO) in 2005, a collective of self-organised architecture studios sharing common design strategies in practice and academic discourse.

Whist working with UFO, Eduardo lectured and ran workshops at London Metropolitan University, The Architecture Association, Greenwich University and Brighton University. Between 2007 and 2009 Eduardo also worked with Gianni Botsford Architects on a number of winning competitions for projects in Dubai, New York and Riga.

In 2009 Eduardo relocated to Sydney where he co-directed UFO Sydney for 8 years. During this time he worked on a range of projects including installations, exhibitions, publications, commercial fitouts and residential dwellings. Eduardo also lectured at the University of Sydney and UTS where he ran design studios in both the master and undergraduate program.

In 2017 Eduardo launched B A R A T A with the aim of focusing on experimental design projects. Eduardo’s research continues to build on the idea of embedding novel computer-aided fabrication techniques and material technologies to enrich design outcomes. Through these strategies, Eduardo’s objective is to generate pragmatic and performative architectural strategies with the ability to support the fragile environment we inhabit. In addition to this line of research, Eduardo is currently involved in several research grants based at The University of Sydney.
